Welcome to the Jungle

Finding the appropriate archive material for your project and then clearing it can be an epic mission in itself. This afternoon at the mac's Hexagon theatre you can get a taste of three different projects, and find out how the people behind them navigated this tangled undergrowth.

12:30: Made in Birmingham
This recent documentary on the city’s punk, reggae and bhangra heritage includes a wealth of old footage. The team behind the film, including director Deborah Aston and producers Jez Collins and Roger Shannon, will discuss how it came together. Followed by a screening of the full film.

14:30: Gleaners

Last year Northwest Film Archive hosted two artists as part of the Gleaners residency, in association with Abandon Normal Devices. Jenna Collins and Sam Meech spent several weeks trawling the vaults and assembling work which combined archive footage, music, poetry and original material, and today we're screening their respective films: More Real than the Everyday World and Noah's Ark. Sam Meech will be present to introduce the screening.

**This is a change to the session advertised in the brochure; unfortunately Futurist Films are no longer able to present an extract from NG83.**

15:30: Home of Metal
In summer 2011 heavy metal will be taking over Birmingham and the Black Country with a packed programme of events, screenings and exhibitions. Co-director of Capsule Lisa Meyer will talk about how Home of Metal came about.
